More Selling Days Won’t Fix an Unclear Appointment
Cox’s October forecast separates calendar effects from sales pace. A dealership can make the same distinction between more opportunities and better follow-through.

Read the Forecast Before Choosing the Lesson
Cox Automotive’s October 27 forecast expects new-vehicle sales volume to rise from September, while the annualized selling pace stays close to recent levels. It notes that October has 28 selling days, three more than September. This is a forecast, not a final sales result.
That distinction is useful for a store reviewing its own month. A larger total can come with a larger calendar. It doesn’t automatically mean the sales process improved. Before congratulating the team or demanding more leads, look at what happened to the opportunities already in front of the store.
Make the Appointment Mean Something
An appointment should carry a reason for the visit. Record the vehicle or question that brought the customer in, what they want to accomplish and what your team needs to prepare. If the vehicle’s availability still needs checking, do that before describing it as ready. If the customer needs a comparison, make sure someone owns it.
Confirm the time and ask whether the customer has what they need to make the visit useful. Keep the next step simple. A reminder that only repeats the address can miss the real concern, such as an unanswered trade question or uncertainty about the vehicle. Give the customer a way to raise that concern before traveling.
When the customer arrives, introduce the person taking over and share the agreed purpose. They should not need to restart the conversation. If plans change, update the record and explain the available choices. An orderly process earns confidence by making the next step clear, while leaving the decision with the customer.
Measure the Work Between the Inquiry and the Visit
Good Carma can help a dealership write that appointment process, connect the notes and build reminders with a person responsible for exceptions. AI can help summarize an inquiry or draft a confirmation from approved information. A team member still checks vehicle facts, commitments and anything that affects the customer’s decision.
For the next review, compare inquiries per selling day, useful appointments set and appointments kept. Then examine a small sample of missed visits. Was the purpose clear? Was the promised information ready? Did anyone follow up respectfully? The national forecast provides context. Your own customer records show where a more useful conversation and a cleaner handoff could make a difference.
