Before Buying Another Dealer Tool, Check One Week of Customer Follow-Through

Cox Automotive’s November 5 research gives sales managers a reason to check whether their current CRM supports clear customer decisions.

Look at the work the system supports

Cox Automotive’s November 5, 2026 report on its Dealer Success Study finds that dealers who describe their decisions as data-driven are more likely to report meeting profitability goals. That is an association, not proof that software causes profit. The useful question for a sales manager is simpler: are we using the tools we already pay for to help customers move forward?

Pick one recent week and review a small sample of inquiries from each source. Record what the customer asked, whether the first response answered it, the next step agreed with the customer and whether that step happened. A logged task or an automated message is evidence of activity. It doesn’t tell you whether the customer received a useful answer.

Fix one missing step before adding features

Suppose several customers asked for a written quote, but the record only shows an appointment request. Check the handoff. Who confirms vehicle details and approved pricing? Who sends the quote? Who handles a question the automated follow-up can’t answer? Put those responsibilities in a short written process.

Review the same measures after the team has used that process: response time, quotes delivered, agreed appointments kept and unresolved questions. Keep definitions consistent and count people rather than duplicate lead records. Good Carma can help build the workflow, train the handoff and review results with the store. Start with one customer promise the team can reliably track.
